Audition for MPLS (imPulse)
Auditions take place annually in June. There is no audition fee. The audition will last approximately 15 minutes and will consist of the following exercises:

• Vocal exercises to evaluate tone, intonation, musicality, and range
• Sight Singing
• Tonal Memory
• Prepared excerpts*

*All auditioning singers will prepare two brief choral excerpts for this audition. These will be emailed to you after scheduling your audition.

MPLS (imPulse) re-imagines the traditional choir through creative collaborations, narrative style programming, and engaging audiences in the most diverse and unusual spaces we can find. Audience members describe our performances as “an experience.” For us, simply performing music isn’t enough. We not only seek responsible, outstanding singers, but outstanding people. Building choral communities by embracing the singer experience is at the heart of our mission. A professional level of personal preparation is required. We do not hold weekly rehearsals; singers prepare the music for retreat-style rehearsal blocks leading up to the performance(s).  All ensemble members are expected to arrive at project rehearsals with their music mastered and marked in advance.

MPLS (imPulse) draws members from both paid and volunteer rosters. Some projects are fully paid, while a majority of projects are volunteer. Singers have the option to participate in one or both rosters, if selected.
