Hearth Songs
This season, MPLS (imPulse) pilots its new miniPulse program with Hearth Songs. Presented in collaboration with Corner Coffee, a pared down choir of four singers will perform in three intimate coffee shop venues. Featuring David Lang's Pulitzer Prize-winning piece the little match girl passion, you are invited to escape the winter's cold, gather around the musical hearth and share a warm beverage with us. You will also have the opportunity to sample various kinds of craft coffee, learn about the roasting and brewing processes, and engage directly with musicians and baristas. Performances will take place at Corner Coffee North Loop (February 21), Uptown (February 22), and Camden (February 23).

Ryan LaBoy, Associate Conductor
Praised for his collaborative spirit and eclectic music programming, Ryan LaBoy is an active conductor, singer, and music educator throughout the Twin Cities. Currently, he serves as Director of Choirs at North Hennepin Community College and is on conducting faculty at Augsburg University. This season, Ryan also celebrates his appointment as Associate Conductor with the chamber ensemble MPLS (imPulse), and is excited to mount the podium as conductor for GALA Choruses' Youth Festival in summer 2020. His previous conducting experiences include Founding Music Director of ComMUSICation, Youth Music Director at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Guest Artist with South Dakota Music Education Association, and co-leadership of various campus ensembles during graduate studies at the University of Minnesota. Beyond the podium, Ryan sings with Border CrosSing and MPLS (imPulse), and has previously sang with VocalEssence Ensemble Singers and Schola Cantorum on Hudson (NY, NY). Additionally, he has served as an American delegate for various music programs abroad in Mexico, Estonia, Iceland, and Ghana, and holds degrees Choral Conducting and Music Education from the University of Minnesota and Westminster Choir College.
