Artistic Director Samuel Grace Digs Deep through Memorializing Victims of Gun Violence, Elevating the Middle School Experience, and Celebrating Endless Possibilities (Minneapolis, MN) September 11, 2018 — MPLS (imPulse) re-imagines the choral experience by collaborating with novel venues and blending music with engaging experiences. The unique 2018-2019 season marks the ensemble’s fifth season. The season begins with Hold My Hand presented by Mathew Janczewski's ARENA DANCES on Saturday, November 10, at 7:30pm at the Fitzgerald Theatre. Intimate movement and lush soundscapes unravels a politically charged central theme: gun violence in America. The show’s title work is built on the score ‘Requiem’ by 2018 McKnight Fellowship recipient, Joshua Clausen, inspired by Sophie Chou’s visceral piano interpretation of gun violence statistics. MPLS (imPulse) and guest soloist, Carrie Henneman Shaw, will perform music by Clausen as featured artists in ARENA DANCES’ program. On Friday, November 16, the ensemble will bring their sound to Olson Middle School Pool in Bloomington for Poolside Concert Series: Who I Want to Be. This performance explores the lives of middle school students and the everyday joys, fears, heartbreak, and downright awkward moments experienced by all during those years. The January performances combine music with an improvised murder mystery event entitled And Then There Were Beards: A Murder Mystery. MPLS (imPulse) will be partnering with The Bearded Company improv troupe to produce an improvised Agatha Christie-style mystery underscored by the music of MPLS (imPulse). The audience will follow clues as the story and characters develop as The Bearded Company will attempt to uncover who is to blame. Each year, MPLS (imPulse) produces a “imPulse Happy Hour” concert at a local libation lounge. The fifth annual event, imPulse Happy Hour: Open Up will take place at Wander North Distillery on April 12 and 13. This performance celebrates the ensemble’s fifth anniversary and will feature a flight of favorites from their four distinct seasons. When asked about the 2018-2019 season, the ensemble’s artistic director, Samuel Grace said, “MPLS (imPulse) embodies a spirit of collaboration in all that we do. It’s amazing to see how it has developed over the past five years. For this celebratory season, I think audiences are in for a treat with the breadth of programs and experiences we offer. I can’t wait to get started!” November 10: Mathew Janczewski’s ARENA DANCES presents Hold My Hand Dates and times: November 10, 7:30 pm Location: Fitzgerald Theatre, 10 E Exchange St,St Paul, MN 55101 Prices: $17-$27 Tickets:https://www.etix.com/ticket/p/2462881/mathew-janczewskis-arena-dances-presents-hold-my-hand-stpaul-the-fitzgerald-theater?cobrand=FitzgeraldTheater&partner_id=240#_ga=2.4900595.114777046.1535211282-2017742257.1535211282 November 16: Poolside Concert Series: Who I Want to Be Dates and times: November 16, 7:30 pm Location: Olson Middle School Pool, 4551 W 102nd St, Bloomington, MN 55437 Prices: $40 Preferred Seating; $20 General Admission Tickets: https://www.artful.ly/mpls-impulse/store/events/16146 January 25 & 26: And Then There Were Beards Dates and times: January 25, 7:30 pm; January 26, 7:30 pm Location: Lundstrum Performing Arts Center, 1617 N 2nd St, Minneapolis, MN 5541 Prices: $40 Preferred Seating; $20 General Admission; $10 Standing Tickets: https://www.artful.ly/store/events/16196 April 12 & 13: imPulse Happy Hour: Open Up Dates and times: April 12, 7:30 pm; April 13, 2:00 pm & 7:00 pm Location: Wander North Distillery, 771 Harding St NE,Minneapolis, MN 55413 Prices: $40 Preferred Seating; $20 General Admission; $10 Standing Tickets: https://www.artful.ly/store/events/16197 About MPLS (imPulse) MPLS (imPulse) brings rich choir experiences to new audiences in stimulating spaces.
